Davis Cup Volunteers - Have a Ball

Davis Cup volunteers make a huge impact on what was a fantastic event for Scotland and Glasgow!

Glasgow Sport in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) recruited and trained 60 amazing volunteers through the Glasgow Sport Volunteer Bureau (GSVB) to assist with the Davis Cup tie between GB and Australia at the Emirates Arena.

There were two volunteer roles, Welcome Ambassadors and Fanzone volunteers. Welcome Ambassadors were tasked with creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for spectators coming to the Emirates Arena for the Davis Cup, offering assistance to all, providing information about the event and directing spectators to the entry points of the building. Fanzone volunteers had to be prepared to take part in choreographed singing and chanting throughout the weekend of the competition to make the Emirates Arena an impenetrable fortress for the Brits “ which it was! Leon Smith Addressed the group on the Friday morning before the event to ensure the group had what it took to be make the atmosphere electric for the team!

Glasgow Sport and the LTA were delighted with the volunteers contribution, helping to continue with the Legacy in Glasgow from the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Volunteers really enjoyed themselves with one of the Ambassador volunteers saying "This was one of the best volunteer opportunities I have ever done. We were looked after wonderfully by Glasgow Sport and the LTA, the whole team mucked in together" One of the Fanzone volunteers stated that "A truly fantastic opportunity. I loved it from the first to the last minute. Very well organised and really could not ask for more. From the rehearsal and throughout the whole event the cohesive atmosphere was evident throughout the group. This was my first volunteering role and most certainly won't be my last. AWESOME!!'

Watch the video in the link below and see some of the volunteers in action!
